Restoring Feagin Hall: Honoring Our Past, Investing in Our Future

East Texas Baptist University’s Feagin Hall, built in 1950, was the college home to men called to study at ETBC and ETBU for 64 years. The building was taken off-line in 2014, when the University opened Steve and Penny Carlile Hall (then Centennial Hall). Feagin Hall stands as a vital piece of institutional history, holding within its walls and in the hearts of its former residents, wonderful memories for many East Texas Baptist Tigers over the years.

The building has a unique history with the architect who designed ETBU’s Marshall Grand, Robert E. Craig Hall, and Harvey Daniel Bruce Hall. With the expertise in Classical architectural design by the famed Wyatt C. Hedrick and the structural integrity and quality of Post War construction, Feagin Hall is a well-constructed residential facility that reflects the majestic beauty and excellence of ETBU’s campus.

A renewed Feagin Hall was identified in the ETBU 2018 Ten-Year Strategic Plan, which called for preserving this historical building, outmoded for its time, yet skillfully built for restoration into a modern residential living development for today’s college student.

Winston Churchill once said, “We shape our buildings and our buildings shape us.” The Lord impressed upon President Dr. J. Blair Blackburn that one day Feagin Hall would be restored once again to shape the minds, hearts, and souls of Tigers. With large structural iron beams throughout the building, God confirmed this vision for Feagin Hall with Proverbs 27:17, which states, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”

We invite you to partner with us in shaping the future of ETBU. Together, we can restore Feagin Hall as a place where men are educated, discipled, and sent to impact people for Christ. Let us faithfully steward this opportunity for the development of Christian servant leaders to the glory of God.

A Legacy Worth Preserving

Feagin Hall is a treasured part of our campus story. Thousands of alumni who made East Texas Baptist their “Home on the Hill” deepened their walk with the Lord, forged the bonds of friendship, and prepared for God’s calling within this residence hall. By preserving Feagin Hall’s heritage and modernizing its interior, we honor their legacy while preparing to welcome future Tigers who will write the next chapter of the building's storied history. Beyond a building, Feagin Hall is a cornerstone of our campus community, and today we have the opportunity to restore it to its past significance.

With your fervent prayers and generous support, we can shape the future of ETBU and the future of the next generation of Tiger students through the revival of Feagin Hall.

With over six decades of alumni connected to Feagin Hall, this restoration campaign offers an extraordinary opportunity in uniting the ETBU Family around a shared vision to create contemporary residential spaces that support spiritual growth, academic excellence, and lifelong friendships. As ETBU continues to experience record growth in enrollment, on-campus housing is nearing capacity, and additional student residential living space is needed. Refurbishing the facility will do more than expand campus housing; the renewal of Feagin Hall will:

  • Provide a college home for more Tiger students—accommodating 80 residential units to meet the needs of a growing student body
  • Renew and beautify the heart of campus—preserving a historic institutional landmark while enhancing the campus environment
  • Support the University's strategic growth—a cost-effective, sustainable investment that advances the Christ-centered mission for generations to come

The renovation of Feagin Hall, projected at just over $4 million, will be managed by ETBU’s in-house construction team alongside trusted local partners—ensuring stewardship, sustainability, and excellence.

Feagin Hall is more than bricks and mortar. It is a symbol of faith, fellowship, and formation in the lives of countless Tigers. Restoring Feagin Hall ensures that generations of men will have not only a place to live, but a community where their faith, character, and calling are strengthened.

Please unite with us—to pray, partner, and invest in this Kingdom vision. Together, we can restore Feagin Hall as a college home where Tigers are developed in mind, body, and soul, and are empowered to transform the world for Christ.
