Alumni Spotlight Michael Holland (’74)

A man with short, light hair is sitting at a table in a restaurant, wearing a light green striped polo shirt, with a calm expression. The restaurant has a casual, open-air design with white curtains and ceiling fans.

Mr. Michael Holland (’74) graduated from ETBC with a degree in History and would then go on to a successful career, spending 45 years in sales management with several consumer product goods companies such as Nabisco Brands, Kiwi Brands, Barilla Pasta, Chinet, and Faribault Foods. He and his wife Rebecca, are blessed to have three children, Michelle, Jonathan, and Scott, as well as the proud grandparents to Jacie and Garrett.

Following are a few of Michael’s reflections about his time on the Hill.

I was fortunate to be recruited to play baseball at ETBC from 1971 through 1974 and received All-Conference in ‘73 & ‘74. I enjoyed the closeness of campus life as the college was a lot smaller in the 1970s, and the baseball team was very good allowing us some notoriety on campus.

During my time at ETBC, Dr. Polly Davis was my guiding light. She taught me how to research for term papers, as well as how to be prepared for her classes. She was a very demanding professor. Coach Ray Nye was very influential in my decision to attend ETBC. He molded me into an All-Conference pitcher as well as making me take on a leadership role for the baseball team.

After graduation, unfortunately, my career took me away from keeping close connections with alumni. However, in retirement, I have tried to reconnect with several baseball teammates such as Sam Parks, Kerry Gibson, Bob Swanson, Steve Yocum, & Ted Friedman.
