Meet Dr. Laurie Smith

" 'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.' " Jeremiah 29:11

Dr. Laurie Smith has been teaching at the college level since 1988.  She began her career at ETBU in 1991.  She enjoys helping students develop their research projects and seeing how much they grow emotionally and academically during the process. Dr. Smith also teaches courses in Criminology, Death and Dying, and Women and Men in Society.  She has worked with her colleague, Dr. Mark Miller, on several research presentations dealing with issues related to religious beliefs, most recently, tying those beliefs to drug and alcohol use. She has also done several presentations about bereavement issues and has led a grief support group at her church. Dr. Smith is married and she and her husband have two sons, plus a younger son who died from SIDS in 2001.
