Dr. Douglas Lockard is Chair of the Department of Music and Theatre Arts, Professor of Music, and Coordinator of Instrumental Activities in the School of Communication and Performing Arts at East Texas Baptist University. He earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Henderson State University, a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from the University of North Texas, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance from the University of Texas at Austin. At ETBU, Dr. Lockard teaches private trumpet lessons, advanced ear training, music history and music education courses, and serves as the director of the ETBU Jazz Band. An active professional musician, Lockard performs with the Marshall Symphony Orchestra, the Longview Symphony Orchestra, the South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, and the ETBU Faculty Brass Quintet. He has appeared as a trumpet soloist with the Marshall Symphony, the Little Rock Wind Symphony, the ETBU Symphonic Band, and the East Texas Symphonic Band. As a clinician, Lockard has conducted numerous honor bands and jazz ensembles and presented trumpet masterclasses in Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. Prior to his appointment at ETBU, he taught at Ouachita Baptist University and served as a public school band director in Arkansas and Texas. He and his wife, Rachel, are members of Mobberly Baptist Church in Longview.
