Meet Ms. Taryn Barney

Entering her first season under ETBU Softball Head Coach Janae Shirley, Taryn Barney joins the Tigers after a decorated four-year playing career at UT Tyler.

Barney helped the Patriots win back-to-back NCAA Division II National Championships and was selected to the 2025 National Championship All-Tournament Team. She was also a two-time NFCA and D2CCA All-Region honoree, a two-time All-Lone Star Conference First Team selection, the LSC Academic Player of the Year, and a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree.

During her career, Barney recorded a .349 batting average with 38 doubles, 21 home runs, 119 RBI, and 73 runs scored. Over her final two seasons, she started 117 of 121 games and batted .370 with 110 RBI. In the 2025 National Championship game against Tampa, she delivered an RBI double to give UT Tyler a 1-0 lead in its eventual 3-0 victory.

A native of Lewiston, Idaho, Barney was an Idaho All-State Second Team selection, a two-time North Idaho Hall of Fame High School Softball Athlete of the Year, a two-time IEL MVP, and the IEL Newcomer of the Year at Lewiston High School.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from UT Tyler in 2026.
