About ETBU

Meet Ms. Penny Finch

"I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me."

Galatians 2:20, NASB

Penny Finch serves as the Director of Academic Success at East Texas Baptist University, where she provides leadership for undergraduate student success initiatives. Her responsibilities include overseeing academic advising, tutoring, academic coaching, and student support programs designed to promote student persistence, retention, and academic achievement. She works closely with faculty and staff to ensure students receive holistic, proactive academic support throughout their academic journey.

A native East Texan, Ms. Finch grew up in Lufkin, Texas, and brings a deep appreciation for the region and its students to her work at ETBU. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Stephen F. Austin State University, followed by a Master’s degree in Education with a concentration in School Counseling. She also attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and will soon begin her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) with a concentration in Student Affairs.

Ms. Finch is deeply passionate about helping students find joy, resilience, and purpose when challenges arise. Her leadership philosophy aligns with Craig Groeschel’s reminder that “leaders aren’t always the smartest people in the room—they’re often the ones who refuse to give up,” a principle that shapes her approach to student support and leadership.

Ms. Finch finds great fulfillment in walking alongside students as they build confidence, perseverance, and clarity in their calling, equipping them to thrive both at ETBU and beyond.
