Meet Dr. Nathan Phillips

Dr. Nathan Phillips serves as the Chair of the Department of Music and Theatre Arts, Assistant Professor of Music, and Director of Bands at East Texas Baptist University. Dr. Phillips earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. Shortly after, Dr. Phillips began graduate studies in Greensboro, North Carolina at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He studied trombone with Dr. Randy Kohlenberg and earned a Master of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Trombone Performance.

While in Greensboro, he maintained an active studio teaching and performing schedule and most recently won the Principal Trombone position in the Durham Symphony Orchestra. As a performer, Dr. Phillips has most recently performed a solo work with the Elon University Phoenix Winds.

Dr. Phillips has served as the Assistant Director of Bands at Elon University in Elon, North Carolina, as well as a Visiting Professor of Music at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma.

An active clinician and teacher, Dr. Phillips is passionate about music education and inspiring young teachers to make a difference in the field of music.
