Meet Dr. Courtney Pruitt

Dr. Courtney Garrett Pruitt serves as Assistant Professor of Kinesiology–Sport Management and Program Director of Kinesiology at East Texas Baptist University. She brings more than 20 years of experience in athletics, coaching, leadership, administration, and higher education to the classroom.

Dr. Pruitt earned her Doctor of Education in Leadership and Sport Management from National University. Her doctoral research examined racial and gender disparities in NCAA athletic director positions, with a focus on career advancement, leadership experiences, mentorship, and professional opportunities. Her teaching areas include Sport Marketing, Organization and Administration in Kinesiology and Sport, and Legal Aspects of Sport.

Prior to joining ETBU, Dr. Pruitt served as Athletic Director at Kilgore College, where she provided leadership and oversight for multiple intercollegiate athletic programs. During her tenure, Kilgore College athletics achieved significant competitive and academic success, including conference and regional championships. Her professional service has also included leadership roles within NJCAA Region XIV and service on multiple NJCAA committees, including serving as Chair of the NJCAA Women’s Flag Football Committee.

Throughout her career, Dr. Pruitt has viewed leadership as an opportunity to serve others. Her commitment to faith, service, mentorship, and student development aligns with ETBU’s Christ-centered mission and informs her approach to teaching and preparing students to lead with integrity, purpose, and excellence in the sport industry.
