Meet Dr. Chris Smith

Dr. Chris Smith is an Associate Professor of Worship Leadership at ETBU. Prior to this appointment, he was on faculty at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, where he taught guitar and music technology. In addition to this academic post, he was the Minister of Music and Youth at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, also in Birmingham. Dr. Smith holds a Bachelor degree of Music in Guitar Performance and a Master's degree in Music in Church Music, both from Samford University. He has also recently completed his doctorate in Worship and Hymnology from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Having an active role in church music for over two decades, Dr. Smith has led worship for numerous churches, conferences, and retreats and is currently the Associate Worship Pastor at Oakland Heights Baptist Church in Longview. He is accomplished as a professional musician and is continually in demand for studio recordings and other various performances. His music career has taken him across the United States and abroad. He is passionate about teaching music and worship, ensuring that the best is offered up to our God. He is married to Rachel Holland Smith, who teaches music at Spring Hill Intermediate School. Together, they have two daughters, Summerlyn Grace and Kilee Rae.
