Leadership Studies (B.A.S.)

The B.A.S. in Leadership Studies provides an opportunity for students to gain practical skills for leadership based in an understanding of the theoretical and philosophical foundations of leadership and with an emphasis on Christian Servant Leadership. Course content will complement a wide variety of career opportunities as students will make practical applications for leadership theory within their chosen field as a part of the leadership studies  coursework.
The Bachelor of Applied Science degree program is designed for working adults, adults who wish to return to school, and other non-traditional students. The degree provides a mechanism to recognize college level learning from prior work experience, individual and other types of study, prior academic experience, and transfer credit in fields which are not offered at ETBU.
Admission Requirements:
1. Students must be a minimum of twenty-four (24) years of age before matriculation to the University.
2. Meet with an assigned advisor to develop an academic plan.


  1. Students will learn to apply leadership models, theories, and concepts in a wide variety of professional and personal settings.
  2. Students will assess their own strengths and weaknesses for leading and to gain tools to grow in leadership potential and capabilities.
  3. Students will demonstrate integration of leadership concepts with biblical teachings on leadership.


General Requirements for the Bachelor of Applied Science Major: Leadership Studies

General Education Requirements - 34 hours
English 1301, 1302, and three hours sophomore literature - 9 hours
Religion 1320 and 1330 - 6 hours
History - 3 hours
Political Science 2305 - 3 hours
Social Science (CJUS, ECON, GEOG, POSC, PSYC, SOCI) - 3 hours
Science (must be lab science) - 4 hours
Mathematics - 3 hours
Speech 1311, 1315, or 1318 - 3 hours
Major Area of Study (see below). 33 hours
Electives (to total 120 hours)
Earn 39 advanced hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.0
Total: Minimum one hundred twenty (120) semester hours

Note: Students selecting the Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) Major in Leadership Studies do not have a minor. All courses in the major must be completed with a grade of C or higher. Portfolio credit is optional on the BAS. Portfolio credit can be used to satisfy degree requirements. If the Portfolio option is selected, the student must enroll in GSTU 3300 as part of the preparation of this portfolio.
