Former ETBU Board of Trustee Member Sheila C. Hurtte Passes Away

DAINGERFIELD, Texas (8/25/15) - Funeral services for Sheila C. Hurtte, 84, of Daingerfield will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 27, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Daingerfield with Bro. Jim Powell and Bro. Don Ross officiating. Burial will be in the Daingerfield Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral Home.

MNM: ETBU Professor to Host Leadership Event in Marshall, Longview

MARSHALL NEWS MESSENGER (7/22/15) - A Hallsville High School and East Texas Baptist University alumni turned professor is wanting to give back to her community by hosting a first of its kind leadership seminar for area junior high and high school athletes and their parents.

Laci McRee, ETBU's assistant kinesiology professor, is hosting a Marshall leadership seminar for the staff of the Boys and Girls Club of The Big Pines at 4 p.m. on Aug. 4 at the club.

Former ETBU English Professor Henry Hood, Jr. Passes Away

MARSHALL, Texas (7/27/15) - A former East Texas Baptist University English professor Henry Hood, Jr., (63), passed away at his home on Friday, July 24, 2015. Hood taught at ETBU from 1980 2000. Funeral service will be held at at Meadowbrook Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 4:00 p.m.

He was born in Catlettsburg, Kentucky on November 4, 1951, to Henry Hood, Sr. and Fern McGlone Hood. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Donna Hood; and his brothers-in-law, Larry Overman, Thomas Allemang, Richard Osborne and Ronnie Lawhorn.

ETBU Alum Working in the Hollywood South Film Industry

MARSHALL, Texas  (5/19/15) - Do you know where "Hollywood South" is? If you ask the question to former Miss ETBU Kelly Mills she knows the answer. Mills has been working in "Hollywood South" which is the nickname given to the state of Louisiana after state offered financial incentives in 2002 lured movie makers to shoot their productions in the state.  In 2014, the state of Louisiana was tops in film production edging out perennial leader California.
