Tiger Baseball player Casey Combs joins MLB

For the third time in University history, an East Texas Baptist University Baseball player has been selected in the Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft. Joining the ranks of Tim Brown (1980, New York Mets) and Tyler Bates (2016, Los Angeles Angels), Casey Combs was picked as #801 in the twenty-seventh round by the Miami Marlins. Combs was the fourth NCAA Division III athlete chosen in the draft and only one of nine overall.

ETBU Dean of the School of Education John Sargent reminds the ETBU community that the Gospel has the power to change the world. During the chapel service, the ETBU Integration of Faith and Learning Committee acknowledged Dr. Sargent as the J. Ward Walker Honoree.

ETBU names Dr. John Sargent as the 2019 J. Ward Walker Honoree

East Texas Baptist University recognized Dr. John Sargent as the 2019 J. Ward Walker Lecturer on Wednesday, April 24. Each year, the ETBU Integration of Faith and Learning Committee acknowledges a faculty or staff member as the J. Ward Walker Honoree to lead the lecture series. During the University’s chapel service, Dr. Sargent reminded the ETBU community that Christians have the power to change the world.

George Carter and Gloria Moon receive ETBU Good Samaritan Award

East Texas Baptist University held the second annual Good Samaritan Luncheon on Thursday, April 25 to recognize Marshall Convention and Visitor Bureau Board Chair George Carter and Marshall City Commissioner-District 1 Gloria Moon for their servant leadership in Marshall. ETBU selected Carter and Moon to receive the Good Samaritan Award, inspired by the parable in Luke 10:25-37.

ETBU recognized as the sixth-ranked Registered Nurse program in Texas

East Texas Baptist University has been recognized by the Annual RegisteredNursing.org Registered Nurse (RN) Program State Rankings as the sixth-ranked RN Program in Texas out of 119 programs evaluated and 50 ranked. Since 2015, ETBU nurses have achieved 100 percent pass rates on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) and received job offers within three months of degree completion.

The 2019 ETBU Debate Team celebrates with their Coach, Dr. Cole Franklin. He received the International Public Debate Association (IPDA) 2019 Bennett Strange Coach of the Year Award at the IPDA National Championship Tournament and Convention.

ETBU Professor Cole Franklin receives IPDA Coach of the Year Award

Dr. Cole Franklin received the International Public Debate Association (IPDA) 2019 Bennett Strange Coach of the Year Award at the IPDA National Championship Tournament and Convention on Tuesday, April 17 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Determined by a vote of all university programs attending the national tournament, the Coach of the Year award is presented to a debate director annually and honors the coach for his or her dedication to students, mentoring, debate education and pedagogy, and service to the association and debate community.
