ETBU senior Payton Weinzapfel directs Hedda Gabler

The East Texas Baptist University Theatre Arts Department concluded its 2017-2018 production season with the performance of Henrik Ibsen's Hedda Gabler on Thursday, April 26 through Sunday, April 29. The full-length play, featuring Payton Weinzapfel as student director, focused on Hedda Tesman's hardships with the societal conventions of the late nineteenth century.

ETBU honors former Tiger at Arbor Day observance

East Texas Baptist University celebrated the 2018 Arbor Day on Thursday, April 26 by planting three Live Oak trees in memory of the late ETBU graduate ('05), Tiger Baseball player James Morgan, who lost his life at the age of 29 in an airplane crash in 2012. Nearly 60 students gathered to reflect on Scripture, pray, and plant trees. ETBU Student Body President Reid Adams read the story of creation from Genesis 1:1-13, and senior Dylan Sumpter prayed over the campus, community, and world.

Misty Scott and J.C. Hughes receive ETBU Good Samaritan Awards

East Texas Baptist University held the inaugural Good Samaritan Luncheon on Tuesday, May 1 to recognize Mission Marshall Director Misty Scott and City of Marshall Public Works Director J.C. Hughes for their servant leadership in Marshall. Scott, introduced by Central Baptist Church-Marshall Retired Senior Pastor Wallace Watkins, and Hughes, introduced by City of Marshall Interim City Manager Jack Redmon, were selected by ETBU as the first recipients of the Good Samaritan Award, inspired by the parable in Luke 10:25-37.

Lauren McCollum receives the 2018 Senior Girl Call-Out award

Lauren McCollum was recognized on Friday, April 20 during the East Texas Baptist University 71st annual Senior Girl Call-Out, ETBU's longest standing tradition. Selected by a faculty and staff vote, the individual "called out" each year is distinguished for her exemplary Christian character, social consciousness, personal poise, academic achievement, and spiritual vision.

Jacqueline Ramos is named 2018 J. Ward Walker Honoree

Jacqueline Ramos was recognized as the 2018 J. Ward Walker Lecturer by East Texas Baptist University on Monday, April 23. Each year, the ETBU Integration of Faith and Learning Committee acknowledges a faculty or staff member as the J. Ward Walker Honoree to lead the lecture series. During the University's chapel service, Ramos reminded the ETBU community that faith and calling must influence every aspect of a believer's life.
