Student Government Association Application

SGA Qualifications

  • Be a full-time undergraduate student at East Texas Baptist University
  • Maintain a Grade Point Average of 2.5 or higher.
  • Be in good standing with the University, i.e. not on academic or disciplinary probation.
  • Meet the classification requirements for the position for which you are running.

SGA General Requirements

  • Attend weekly SGA meetings on Mondays from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
  • Serve a weekly office hour.
  • Attend and help set up for SGA special events such as Fall Formal, Miss ETBU, as well as Coffee and Conversations.
  • In addition, officers must attend weekly Executive Council meetings at a mutually agreed upon time and meet individually with the SGA Advisor each week.  

Position Specific Requirements

Senators

  • Class Senators must be a member of the class corresponding to the seat for which they are running.  This is based on number of course hours completed and how long they have been enrolled as a full-time undergraduate.  
  • Senator at Large positions are open to students of any classification.

President and Vice President

  • Be a member of the incoming junior or senior class.
  • Have previously served in SGA for at least two academic semesters.
  • Reside in University Housing

Secretary and Treasurer

  • Be a member of the incoming sophomore, junior, or senior class.
  • Have previously served in SGA for at least two academic semesters.
  • Reside in University Housing

Application for SGA

You may run for only one position in each section (Officer & Senator), if you meet the qualifications.  
Students running for an officer position may also run for a senate position.

SGA Questionnaire

 

Please type a personal statement of no more than 125 words. 

 Include the following: who you are, why you want to be in SGA, what you plan to accomplish while in SGA, and any other items you feel are important for the students to know.  This statement, along with your basic information (classification, hometown, major) will be used on the voting website as well as any SGA election publicity released to the campus during the campaign period.

  • How would you use your position as an Officer to serve SGA and the ETBU community?
