The presidents of B. H. Carroll Theological Institute in Irving and East Texas Baptist University in Marshall announced Feb. 6 that the institutions’ boards have each approved resolutions authorizing an exclusive agreement to merge the administrative and academic operations of B. H. Carroll into ETBU.

A letter of intent, signed by B. H. Carroll President Gene Wilkes and ETBU President J. Blair Blackburn, sets forth the terms and conditions of the merger, as well as the timeline for its completion. 

East Texas Baptist University broadened its reach through a Christian Education Partnership Agreement with Colegio Bautista de Temuco (CBT). The agreement, signed Friday, January 26, 2023, by ETBU President J. Blair Blackburn and CBT Rector Juan Luis Salinas Urrutia, provides CBT students a pathway to pursue a Christian education at ETBU.

East Texas Baptist University’s Spring 2023 enrollment surpassed the Spring 2022 enrollment record, with 1,560 new and returning Tigers enrolled for classes in January 2023. The 4.35% increase over last year’s record spring enrollment marks the first time Spring semester enrollment is over 1,500.

East Texas Baptist University’s Tiger Softball Team traveled to Australia in December for the University’s fourteenth Tiger Athletic Mission Experience (TAME) trip. Led by the Director of Global Education and Great Commission Center Lisa Seeley, Vice President for Athletics Ryan Erwin, and Head Softball Coach Janae Shirley, the group of 41 athletes and staff partnered with the International Sports Federation (ISF), an organization that seeks to change the world through sports.

East Texas Baptist University presented 162 graduates with degrees during its commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 10, in Baker Chapel of the Rogers Spiritual Life Center. ETBU President J. Blair Blackburn presided over the ceremony as 116 students received undergraduate degrees and 46 received graduate degrees.
