T.B. Maston Foundation Lectures: Reject Accommodation, Olson Urges Churches

BAPTIST STANDARD: Marshall, Texas (4/14/16) — The church should give the world a glimpse of the kingdom of God, but cultural accommodation and nationalism prevent American congregations from fulfilling their calling, theologian Roger Olson said.

 “The church is not to be a launching pad for Christian empire—American or otherwise—but God’s alternative social order within the fallen world ruled by powers and principalities, challenging them with light dispelling their darkness, not the might of power and force,” he said.

ETBU Students Fix Up House In Marshall Over Spring Break

MARSHALL NEWS MESSENGER: (3/19/16) A group of about 20 East Texas Baptist University students have given up their spring break to refurbish a house in Marshall.

Instead of enjoying their vacation on a beach somewhere, they've been busy replacing a roof, repairing and painting wood siding and landscaping a house on West Meredith Street as part of a servant leadership class.

"I don't think I've told anyone to get up and work," ETBU Provost Thomas Sanders said. "We just tell them what needs to be done and they just jump up and do it."

ETBU Holds UIL Math and Science Practice Meet

MARSHALL, Texas (3/04/16) – The Department of Mathematics at East Texas Baptist University hosted a UIL Math and Science practice meet on Saturday, February, 27, 2016. High school students competed in the areas of Number Sense, Calculator, Math, and Science. Eighty students from nine area high schools participated in the competition. 

“We appreciate the opportunity to host this practice meet and enjoyed having the best and brightest area high school students on our campus” said Dr. Marty Warren, ETBU Professor of Mathematics and coordinator for the practice meet.

ETBU Wraps Up Inauguration Festivities With Community Service

MARSHALL NEWS MESSENGER (2/21/16) - East Texas Baptist University sophomore Austin Damron joined staff and his fellow university students on Saturday to help build a home for a Marshall single mother and her two children as part of Tigers Serve Day.

“I’ve worked at this Habitat for Humanity house twice, once a couple of weeks ago,” he said on Saturday. “It’s so cool to see how the house has developed during that time.”

Damron is a member of the university’s Student Foundation Organization which selects different areas around the community to serve each month.

ETBU Inaugurates 13th president In Marshall

MARSHALL NEWS MESSENGER: (2/20/16) - The light on the hill was shining brightly on Friday as East Texas Baptist University in Marshall officially welcomed its 13th president.

The inauguration ceremony Friday made it official for President J. Blair Blackburn who was unanimously hired by the university's trustees in April.

"We know we have found the best person, the best prepared, the best qualified and the person sanctioned by God to lead ETBU," ETBU Trustee Hal Cornish said Friday.
