ETBU Holds UIL Math and Science Practice Meet

MARSHALL, Texas (3/04/16) – The Department of Mathematics at East Texas Baptist University hosted a UIL Math and Science practice meet on Saturday, February, 27, 2016. High school students competed in the areas of Number Sense, Calculator, Math, and Science. Eighty students from nine area high schools participated in the competition. 

“We appreciate the opportunity to host this practice meet and enjoyed having the best and brightest area high school students on our campus” said Dr. Marty Warren, ETBU Professor of Mathematics and coordinator for the practice meet. 

The top student who competed in Number Sense, Calculator, and Math was Jay Patel from Queen City High School and was awarded an Apple iPad mini and a $16,000 ETBU mathematics scholarship. 

Medals or ribbons were awarded to students placing 1st through 5th place in each event. Trophies were also awarded to the schools with the most points accumulated from all four areas tested. Two schools competed in Division I (5A and 6A schools). First and second place trophies for that division went to Jacksonville High School and Marshall High School, respectively. In Division II, trophies for first, second, and third places went to Sabine High School, Queen City High School, and Daingerfield High School, respectively.
