Scholarships and Awards

The Department of Language and Literature offers a variety of scholarships, awards, and work-study positions:

Scholarships

The Thomas and Mary Cook Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a student in the English department as encouragement for language proficiency and community literacy.

The Albert F. and Sophronia Winham Ramsey Memorial Literary Scholarship is awarded to English majors of at least sophomore standing who have a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average.

The Dr. Lois Phillip Ware English Scholarship is awarded to outstanding students of junior or senior standing majoring in English who have completed one full year at East Texas Baptist University.

Awards

The Outstanding Student Award is given each year to the best all-around student in the department.

The Era Miller Creative Writing Awards are granted annually to students who demonstrate unusual ability in creative writing.

Work-Study

Student workers assist the faculty with a variety of tasks and provide writing tutoring as needed.
