ETBU Students Serve Across Texas on Spring Break

East Texas Baptist University students showcased their dedication to service and mission work during spring break as they engaged in projects across Texas. A group of students from ETBU's Baptist Student Ministry (BSM) spent the week in South Padre Island for Beach Reach, while others participated in disaster recovery mission work through the BOUNCE ministry in Katy, Texas.

East Texas Baptist University students partner with Redemption Church in New York City

East Texas Baptist University sent three Baptist Student Ministry (BSM) students to New York City from Tuesday, May 7, through Sunday, May 14, for mission work throughout the city. The group of students and ETBU Director of Baptist Student Ministry David Griffin partnered with Redemption Church in Red Hook and pastor Edwin Pacheco.

Once considered the “Crack Capital” of the United States, Red Hook is a densely populated community with a long history of poverty, crime, and brokenness within its walls.

ETBU Nursing students provide aid in the Philippines

The East Texas Baptist University School of Nursing traveled to the Philippines as a part of the Global Study and Serve program from Monday, May 13 through Monday, June 3. Students earned credit for Global Nursing, taught by Dean and Assistant Professor of Nursing Rebekah Grigsby. The group of twelve collaborated with International Baptist Church (IBC) in Manila and the Philippines Christian University to experience and practice health care outside of the classroom.

A group of 32 ETBU students, faculty, and staff visit the Western Wall of the Herodian Temple in the Old City of Jerusalem. The ETBU School of Christian Studies traveled to Israel as a part of the Global Study and Serve Program this May.

ETBU students follow Jesus’ footsteps in Israel

The East Texas Baptist University School of Christian Studies traveled to Israel as a part of the Global Study and Serve Program on Monday, May 13 through Saturday, May 25. Students earned credit for either Introduction to Old Testament, taught by Assistant Provost and Associate Professor of Religion and Leadership Emily Prevost, or Lands and Cities of Israel, taught by Dean of the School of Christian Studies John Harris. Led by ETBU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Thomas Sanders, the group of 32 students, faculty, and staff walked where Jesus walked.
