ETBU students serve Louisiana flood victims

During August, almost all of Baton Rouge and many surrounding areas encountered between a few inches and 11 feet of flood water. Many homeowners were either uninsured or under-insured for flood damage. Over 30,000 people were rescued during this disaster, and the area is still dealing with the after-effects.
 
"She [a homeowner] had lost everything she had worked to build--her home, belongings, everything." Tiger Baseball sophomore Jimmy Kizer said. "What we worked on were just the things that could be replaced."
 

ETBU students receive service awards 2016

ETBU students receive service awards

Two students were recognized for their service Monday at ETBU. They were awarded the Bob and Gayle Riley Servant Leadership Award during a special chapel service focused on servant leadership. Seniors Zachary Ervin and Abby Weaver received their awards from Dr. Bob Riley, President Emeritus, and his wife, former First Lady Gayle Riley. Dr. Riley served as president of ETBU for 17 years before retiring in 2009.

ETBU Theatre brings the “dream” on stage

Four weeks, 22 characters, thousands of lines, 25 rehearsals, and over 1,300 hours were spent on behind-the-scenes elements for ETBU's most recent theatre production. The ETBU Theatre Department began working on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream on August 29 and played five sold out shows from September 29 to October 2.

ETBU joins in See You at the Pole

Around 100 students from East Texas Baptist University joined in prayer for one another, their families, their community, the nation, and the world this morning from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. as a part of a worldwide initiative-See You at the Pole.
 
"We prayed for unity on campus, racially, and between athletes and non-athletes," ETBU Senior Brett Forbus of Kilgore said. "We prayed for the community of Marshall, and that students bring their faith outside of their bubble and share it in their community by being more involved."

ETBU places 5th at Southern Miss Tournament

The East Texas Baptist University Debate Team competed in the Hub City Swing Debate Tournament September 23-24 in Hattiesburg, MS. The team returned home with a fifth place team finish, as well as numerous individual honors. 

In the Novice division, Carrie Sparks posted a 4-1 preliminary round record and advanced to octofinals and quarterfinals before falling in the semifinal round. Markevia Holmes, competing in her second debate tournament ever, earned a 3-2 preliminary record, advancing to the elimination round of 16.
