ETBU theatre looks to the light with performance of 'Wait Until Dark'

East Texas Baptist University's School of Communications and Performing Arts lifted the curtain last weekend on their production of the classic Broadway thriller Wait Until Dark by Frederick Knott. The 1966 play, turned into an Oscar-nominated film starring Audrey Hepburn, was directed in this iteration by ETBU Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts Joshua Scott.

The Addams Family helps ETBU music and theatre embrace the darkness

They’re creepy and they’re kooky, they’re mysterious and spooky, and they came to Marshall in East Texas Baptist University’s special musical performance of The Addams Family, which was staged at the new Memorial City Hall Performance Center in downtown Marshall February 27 – March 1. The show boasted a University-record attendance of over 1,700 patrons throughout the run of the show.

ETBU commences 2019-2020 theatre season with Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors

The East Texas Baptist University Department of Theatre Arts concluded its production of Comedy of Errors last weekend after a successful four-show run from Thursday, October 3 to Sunday, October 6. The performances, directed by Associate Professor of Theatre Arts John Dement, consisted of many firsts for the students involved.

ETBU Theatre glimpses the future with a performance of Marjorie Prime

The East Texas Baptist University Theatre Arts Department concluded the 2018-2019 season with a performance of Marjorie Prime by Jordan Harrison on Thursday, April 11 through Sunday, April 14. Set in 2062, the 2015 Pulitzer Prize Finalist play centers on Marjorie Lancaster, an elderly woman with dementia, and her family. As director, ETBU Theatre Arts Department Chair Traci Ledford personally invested in the production.

ETBU performs a local production of The Masque of Beauty and the Beast

East Texas Baptist University Theatre Arts Associate Professor John Dement united the Marshall community through a production of Michael Elliot Brill’s 1979 play, The Masque of Beauty and the Beast. Serving as the inaugural production of Dement’s Starr Struck Theatre, the performance was held at 8:00 p.m. from March 13-16 at no cost to attendees. A total of 235 patrons from Texarkana, Carthage, Longview, Jefferson, Shreveport, and Marshall experienced the performance.
