East Texas Baptist University Rec Teams, consisting of six ETBU college students on each of the three teams, traveled to serve over 8,500 junior high and high school students at various youth camps throughout the summer in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Colorado. Each team served for eight weeks, beginning in June and continuing through August. ETBU students were prepared for both the light and heavyhearted aspects of working with youth, passionate about carrying their burdens and being a source of encouragement.

East Texas Baptist University held their Spring Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 6, 2017, in Baker Chapel of the Ornelas Spiritual Life Center, with ETBU President, J. Blair Blackburn, presiding. ETBU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Thomas Sanders presented the graduating class.

East Texas Baptist University students, faculty and football players honored the memory of two of their own on Friday, which marked the one-year anniversary of the two former football players' death.

Around 100 students from East Texas Baptist University joined in prayer for one another, their families, their community, the nation, and the world this morning from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. as a part of a worldwide initiative-See You at the Pole.
 
"We prayed for unity on campus, racially, and between athletes and non-athletes," ETBU Senior Brett Forbus of Kilgore said. "We prayed for the community of Marshall, and that students bring their faith outside of their bubble and share it in their community by being more involved."
 

MARSHALL, Texas (5/10/16) – East Texas Baptist University student Zach Whitlow has been invited to participate in a workshop at Oxford University.  “Logos in Oxford” is a summer workshop on Biblical texts, vocation, and the Christian mind.
