National Day of Prayer brings Marshall/Harrison County community together

East Texas Baptist University held an observance of the annual National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 6. The 2021 national theme was “Lord, Pour Out Your Love, Life, Liberty” and based on the Scripture found in 2 Corinthians 3:17. Kathryn Pedroza crowned as Miss ETBU 2021

Kathryn Pedroza, a junior organizational communication major from Mansfield, Texas, was crowned as the 65th Miss ETBU on Monday, April 26. Pedroza, who embodies the spirit of what it means to be a Christian servant leader on campus and in the community, was selected from nine contestants during the annual pageant sponsored by ETBU’s Student Government Association. Sophomore English education major Leah Akridge was selected as first runner-up, and senior music education major Anissa Mott was selected as second runner-up.

ETBU recognizes outstanding students during end-of-semester celebrations

East Texas Baptist University recognized the achievements and accomplishments of the Tiger student body before the Spring 2021 semester comes to an end. Some 215 graduating seniors were honored on April 14 with the presentation of their official ETBU Class Ring, marking the largest senior class in University history. On April 21, a special Honors Chapel was held in celebration of all of the accomplishments of the University’s outstanding students.

ETBU celebrates the life and legacy of Sam B. Hall, Jr.

East Texas Baptist University hosted the Sam B. Hall Patriotic Concert, an annual tribute to The Honorable Sam B. Hall, Jr., on Friday, April 23 in Baker Chapel of the Rogers Spiritual Life Center. The concert featured patriotic live music performed by the University Symphonic Band, Combined Choirs, and Hilltop Singers, as well as a salute to those who serve or have served in the U.S. military. ETBU enters the big, bright, beautiful world of Shrek: The Musical

The widely-recognizable green ogre Shrek and his quest for the fiery red-headed princess Fiona was brought to life by East Texas Baptist University in four performances on April 15 - 18. Staged at the historic Memorial City Hall in Downtown Marshall, the performance was the first open to the public since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic following last year’s production of The Addams Family. The show was directed by ETBU Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts Joshua Scott, marking his third directorial effort at the University.
