The School of Communication and Performing Arts at East Texas Baptist University invites you to enjoy an evening of poetic drama with “The Women of Lockerbie.” There will be two weekends of shows, October 17-19 and October 24-26, in Jenna Guest Music Building’s Black Box Theatre. The first weekend aligns with ETBU Homecoming, so students and alumni are encouraged to bring their families and friends to enjoy the play.
“The theme for our season is Loving and Truthful Community,” Professor of Theatre Arts Katie Wampler said. “We cannot have love without truth, or truth without love. As a community, we are called to speak to one another with love and truth. Our opening weekend is Homecoming and our community going back for many years will get to experience a show that demonstrates grief and anger can be transformed into love.”
“The Women of Lockerbie” was written by Deborah Brevoort, and is being directed at ETBU by Professor of Theatre Arts Dr. Katie Wampler and designed by Associate Professor of Theatre Arts Jake Yenish. The play follows a mother’s journey from New Jersey to the hills of Lockerbie, Scotland, in search of her son’s lost remains after the Pan Am 103 tragedy. There, she meets the women of Lockerbie—ordinary women on an extraordinary mission: to reclaim the victims’ clothing from the U.S. government, cleanse it, and return it to grieving families. Loosely inspired by true events, “The Women of Lockerbie” is structured like a Greek tragedy, exploring how love can rise from the ashes of hate.
Admission is $10 or free with an ETBU ID, and all seating is general admission. For additional details and to reserve your seats, please visit www.ETBU.edu/BoxOffice.
