The 5th Annual ETBU Great East Texas Hymn Sing on September 11th

September 10, 2015

MARSHALL, Texas (9/7/15) - The Fifth Annual Great East Texas Hymn Sing hosted by East Texas Baptist University will held on Friday, September 11 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Baker Auditorium in the Ornelas Spiritual Life Center.  The two hours of praising God through hymns will be directed by different leaders. There is no cost to attend the Hymn Sing.

"The Hymn Sing has become very popular with senior adults, homeschool and private school groups and with all who love and appreciate the great hymn heritage of this nation. Many hymns have united Christians across denominational distinctions and have preserved core values, doctrines and aspirations within and beyond the walls of our churches for generations," reflected Paul Tapp, organizer and director of the event. "The Hymn is the embodiment of the soul of our nation, in prayer, praise and proclamation.  These are very powerful moments that we spend together!"

Five different leaders will each lead a 15-minute set of congregational singing of America's best-loved hymns. This year's hymn singing will be led by Minister of Music Aaron Perkins of Woodland Heights Baptist Church, Longview; Minister of Music, Ronnie Simmons, of Dell Dale Ave Baptist Church, Channelview; Minister to Senior Adults, Ronnie Stribble, of First Baptist Church, Lindale; Minister of Music, David Berryhill, of First Baptist Church, Kilgore; and ETBU Director of Alumni Development Paul Tapp.

Musicians Huey Harp, organist at First Baptist Church, Tyler; Melinda Boyd, a pianist from Marshall; and ETBU Professor of Music and trumpeter, Doug Lockard, will be providing the accompaniment for the Hymn Singing.

A reception and time for visiting and fellowship will follow the singing in the Edwards Conference Room adjacent to Baker Auditorium.
