Former ETBU board member, educator remembered for service in church, community

A sweet, devout Christian woman and an unforgettable educator is how those who knew and loved Joy Howell, wife of local oil and gas businessman Rusty Howell, remembered her.

"Mrs. Howell was a very sweet lady. I thought the world of her," said Glen Bickerdike, who served on the East Texas Baptist University board of directors with Howell.

"There was no doubt where she stood in her faith," Bickerdike said. "She was the type person that you enjoyed being around. She always had a smile on her face.

ETBU celebrates Patriot Day

East Texas Baptist University held a Patriot Day Chapel Service on September 11, 2017, to remember and honor those affected by the traumatic terrorists' attacks on our nation that occurred 16 years ago. Students, faculty, staff, and members of the Marshall community joined to pray at the University's chapel service for public servants, those still affected by the events that occurred in 2001, and American citizens and leaders to stand united. ETBU celebrates record student enrollment

East Texas Baptist University achieved a historic milestone with record enrollment standing at 1,533 total students. This number represents a five percent growth from Fall 2016. In addition, the University's freshmen enrollment of 419 new Tigers is the largest freshmen class in the history of the institution. The collaborative effort of Academic Affairs, Athletics, and Admissions increased the freshmen cohort 21 percent over Fall 2016.

ETBU starts the school year by connecting with students

East Texas Baptist University's first week of courses began on Monday, August 21. The University hosted an array of events throughout the week to reach out to all types of students and provide them with the resources and opportunities to get involved. From the Tiger Family Gathering to the Back to School Bash, students, faculty, and staff were able to build relationships with one another.

The Tiger Family unites through Welcome Week

East Texas Baptist University's Welcome Week invited incoming new students to experience life on the Hill through a five-day event, consisting of large group sessions focused on social, academic, and spiritual development as well as activities such as small group sessions, service projects, an ETBU Amazing Race, and Chill on the Hill.
