B. H. Carroll Theological Seminary at East Texas Baptist University has received a gift from a donor to provide five full, first-year scholarships for students pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), beginning in Spring 2026.
These competitive scholarships will be awarded following review of the students' application materials and writing samples by the Doctoral Programs Committee. Students must meet all entrance requirements and possess or be willing to acquire proficiency in the appropriate languages or research skills for select concentrations. BHCTS offers three PhD programs in Faith and Heritage with specializations in Church History, Theology, Ethics, and Philosophy, Ministry and Formation with specializations in Chaplaincy, Christian Education, Leadership, Pastoral Ministry, Counseling, and Spiritual Formation, and Scripture and Witness with specializations in Old Testament, New Testament, Biblical Languages, Preaching and Hermeneutics, and Missions.
B. H. Carroll's PhD program, accredited by both the Association of Theological Schools and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, blends the best elements of the British and American models of theological education. These disciplinary and interdisciplinary seminars offer the opportunity for peer-to-peer critique and can be completed online from anywhere, providing maximum flexibility for students who are working but seeking a terminal degree.
From day one, each student receives personalized supervision from a well-established professor in their particular field. These scholars are well-published and well-experienced in the academic life of colleges, universities, and seminaries, and are superb guides through the literature and concepts of the fields chosen by the students.
Applications for program admission are now open. For more information about the online PhD program at B. H. Carroll or to apply, visit www.ETBU.edu/PHD.
