ETBU and the Hispanic Baptist Convention of Texas Announce Scholarship Opportunity

April 9, 2016

MARSHALL, Texas (4/4/16) - East Texas Baptist University and the Hispanic Baptist Convention of Texas announces a partnership to create scholarships for incoming students. The ETBU Hispanic Christian Servant Leadership Scholarship is designed to help outstanding young Hispanic students continue their education as they prepare for God’s call on their lives.

"The churches of the Hispanic Baptist Convention are making a big impact in their communities across the state. We are thrilled to offer the ETBU Hispanic Christian Servant Leader Scholarships to four students who have been active servant leaders in their congregations,” said ETBU President Dr. J. Blair Blackburn. “We look forward to the contribution these students will make on the ETBU campus and in our community."

Executive Director of the Hispanic Baptist Convention of Texas Jesse Rincones, shared, "I am so excited about this new collaboration between East Texas Baptist University and the Hispanic Baptist Convention of Texas. The Texas Comptroller noted that from 2000 to 2010, Texas Hispanics accounted for 95.1% of all growth in the population under age 18 in Texas - and 49.3 percent of it in the U.S.! The new Hispanic Christian Servant Leader Scholarships are a timely investment that will not only help our students to ‘love the Lord their God with all their mind,’ but will bless the lives of those who are increasingly having an impact in Texas and beyond."

Offered in connection with the Hispanic Baptist Convention of Texas, the scholarship provides coverage of 50% of student tuition and full room and board for two male and two female students throughout their undergraduate degree. Recipients of this scholarship must be active members of a church affiliated with the Hispanic Baptist Convention of Texas and they must follow the recipient guideline in order to remain eligible for the scholarship.
