ETBU Reschedules Judge Sam B. Hall Jr. Lecture Series and Banquet for March 23

MARSHALL, Texas (3/17/15) - The annual Sam B. Hall Jr. Lecture and Banquet has been rescheduled for Monday, March 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the Phillips Great Room on the ground floor of the Bennett Student Commons at East Texas Baptist University.  The lecture series banquet was postponed due to inclement weather on February 23.   The lecture series program commemorates the late United States Representative and federal judge Sam B. Hall, Jr., who was a Marshall native and an alumnus of the College of Marshall, which is now ETBU. 

Phillip B. Meyer, Houston businessman and ETBU trustee, will speak on his life experiences and growth in faith as a business leader.  Currently a partner and vice-president with Oilfield Precision Products, Inc., of Houston, Meyer is the former president of Core International, LLC, and has more than 36 years of experience in various facets of the petrochemical industry, including finance, sales, engineering, operations, customer service, and capital equipment sourcing.  

A former student of East Texas Baptist College and of the University of Houston, Meyer recently began his first term of service as a trustee of East Texas Baptist University.  He recently funded the Meyer Lecture Series in the Fred Hale School of Business, which featured speaker Drayton McLane at ETBU in November 2014.  Accordingly, this years Hall Lecture and Banquet are jointly sponsored by the Fred Hale School of Business, ETBU Institute for Economic Education, the Future Business Leaders of America, and the Collegiate Entrepreneurs' Organization.

The program will also include the announcement of the sixth annual Sam B. Hall Jr. Civic Service Award recipient. Previous honorees were Madeleine Segal Hall (in memoriam), Ray and Mona Lawson of Marshall, Sue Jordan, Frank and Bonnie Strauss, and Sam R. Moseley.

Interested individuals or groups may inquire to reserve an entire table. Advance reservations are recommended by March 18 as seating is limited.  

Any and all proceeds from the program will be added to the Hall Endowment.  Whatever is Right:  Sam B. Hall, Jr., the biography of Judge Hall, will be offered for sale, with proceeds going to benefit the endowment in Judge Hall?s name.

The Sam B. Hall Professorship and the Lecture Series were endowed in 1993 by the family and friends of Congressman and U.S. District Judge Sam B. Hall, Jr.  A native of Marshall and an alumnus of the College of Marshall, now ETBU, and the Baylor University School of Law, Judge Hall served in and was president of several civic organizations and the Marshall Regional Medical Center before his death in 1994. The Hall Professor of History is Dr. Jerry L. Summers, Dean of the School of Humanities at ETBU.
