School of Christian Studies and Humanities hosts second annual academic conference

February 23, 2026

ETBU's School of Christian Studies and Humanities hosted the second annual academic conference on Monday, February 23, sponsored by Phi Alpha Theta, Sigma Tau Delta and Theta Alpha Kappa. The idea for this conference was first conceived as an opportunity for students to gain experience presenting academic work in an environment that is encouraging and familiar. Although the conference is on a smaller scale, it is designed to introduce students to the structure and format they might encounter at a larger conference. Faculty members hope the experience will build confidence and students will be encouraged to share their work.

This year's presenters and paper titles featured:

  • Jessica Key - Living Faith according to James
  • Nickolas Anderson - Ukrainian Boy Scouts
  • Peyton Bryant - Presence in a Perceived Absence: The Search for Connection in Louise Glück’s "The Wild Iris"
  • Andrew Roessner - “John Barleycorn Dead:” Temperance and Prohibition in Marshall, Texas’ Newspapers from 1849-1944
  • Adaline Boone - Expressing the Inexpressible: R.S. Thomas on Absence, Silence, and Language
  • Emma Jamerson - The Eternal Effect of Transient Actions

Students presented their academic research to an audience of faculty and students, followed by a time of questions.
