ETBU Starts 2016 Football Season

August 12, 2016

MARSHALL, Texas - It's a new year with a new coach but the same philosophy for East Texas Baptist University football as the team started the 2016 season. They reported on Wednesday afternoon and had their first practice on Thursday.

Head coach Scotty Walden, who is the youngest head coach in all of NCAA at 26 years old, enters his first year leading the program. After three years as the offensive coordinator, he was promoted to head coach when Joshua Eargle left in January.

After his first day of practice Walden says this, "It feels great to have the team here but we are definitely not where we need to be. When I asked the team what day it was they said day one. And it is just day one and we will continue to build on and correct our mistakes as it will only get better each day. Our demeanor, effort, and attitude was great."

ETBU returns as the tri-champion in the American Southwest Conference from 2015 as they went 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
