NCAA: Casey Selected for National Tournament

May 14, 2016

TENNIS: MARSHALL, Texas (5/12/16) – The historic season for the East Texas Baptist University women’s tennis team still continues as senior Kayla Casey has been selected for the NCAA Division III National Tournament as an individual. This is another first for the program as Casey finishes up her stellar career at ETBU.

Casey will be one of 32 individuals competing for the right to be called the NCAA Division III individual national champion. This will not be new to her as she was one of nine players to play in the ITA national tournament in the fall after she won the ITA Southwest Regional Tournament. She is the only player selected to play in the national tournament from the American Southwest Conference and is just one of two from Texas. Texas Lutheran’s Sofia Vega also made it.

Casey has been ranked #10 all year in the ITA national rankings and has a spring record of 15-1.

The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

The team championship will take place May 23-25 and the individual championships May 26-28, both at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan and will be hosted by Kalamazoo College.
