ETBU Jazz Band in Concert April 8 at The Marshall Grand

MARSHALL, Texas (3/29/16) – The East Texas Baptist University Jazz Band will be in concert on Friday, April 8, at 7:00 p.m. in the Marshall Grand in downtown Marshall. The ETBU Jazz Band, under the direction of Professor of Music Douglas Lockard, will feature great jazz and blues tunes from the past and present. Admission is $5 or free with ETBU I.D.

The opening number of the concert is the classic Count Basie arrangement of Sweet Georgia Brown. The concert will continue with two hits from the Beatles, We Can Work It Out and Here Comes the Sun. Other tunes on the program include Dave Brubeck’s Blue Rondo a la Turk, Bobby Timmons’ Moanin’, Thelonious Monk’s Well You Needn’t, and Willow Weep for Me, featuring senior alto saxophonist Isaac McTaggart.

Zachary Bearden, a senior music in worship major from Magnolia, will be the featured vocalist on the Louis Armstrong standard What a Wonderful World. The ETBU Jazz Band will close the concert with the Otis Redding hit Hard to Handle.
