Prospective Students Check Out ETBU at Tiger Day Festivities

November 9, 2015

MARSHALL NEWS MESSENGER (11/8/15) - Jacksonville sophomore Hannah Milstead was impressed with her first visit to a college campus on Saturday while touring East Texas Baptist University during the institution's Tiger Day.

"They have an emphasis on mission and have a very Christ-centered worldview," Hannah said on Saturday. "It's pretty impressive. They're very active here in student mission and it's been exciting touring the campus today."

More than 250 prospective students, college transfer students and their friends and families were at ETBU Saturday to find out about academics, campus life, ministry opportunities and financial aid.

"They have visited our academic departments and met with faculty, taken campus tours, had lunch and will end the day at the football game," ETBU's Vice President of Enrollment Management Vince Blakenship said Saturday. "We want them to know that ETBU has a Christ-centered commitment to academics and to developing the whole person."

Tiger Day occurs twice a year, once each in the fall and spring semesters.
"It's a beautiful campus and there is a lot to offer as far as student life and the Baptist student ministry," Hannah's mother, Lisa Milstead, said. "I like that it's close by and that they have an emphasis on Christian values and there's a Christian atmosphere here that is good for character growth."

Friendswood senior Madison Schultz said she was impressed with the university's nursing program which is of particular interest to her.

"We toured LeTourneau University yesterday and I've visited Houston Baptist University, Baylor University and Louisiana College," Madison said. "I really liked ETBU because it's a very God-centered campus. The faculty is very nice."

Madison's dad, Jim Schultz, said he liked the private religious university for the same reasons.

"It's so Christian-based and that's very important to me," Schultz said. "It's a nice, warm, friendly environment and it seems like a good place to go to school."

While on campus, students were able to fill out applications, apply for financial aid and check into housing.
