Engage@ETBU with Church under the Bridge Pastor Dr. Jimmy Dorrell on October 28th

October 27, 2015

MARSHALL, Texas (10/22/15) - The 4th annual "Engage@ETBU" conference will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, from 8:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The conference provides information about leading the church into the 21st Century. The keynote speaker is Dr. Jimmy Dorrell, pastor of the Church under the Bridge and Executive Director of Mission Waco. The yearly conference at East Texas Baptist University is for area ministers and church members.

According to conference organizer and ETBU Vice President for Spiritual Development Dr. Scott Bryant,
" 'Engage@ETBU' is an event that hopes to address current needs facing our local congregations.  All congregations have a responsibility to help those in their local community but it can be difficult to know how to help."

"Congregations and church leaders can be overwhelmed by the visible needs that exist in their community. Dr. Dorrell will provide clear guidelines for church leaders to lead their congregations to help people in ways that empower and assist the individuals," added Dr. Bryant.

The Church under the Bridge meets each Sunday morning under Interstate 35 and 4th Street in Waco. The congregation describe itself "as an ordinary church made holy by His presence of black, white, brown, rich and poor, educated in the streets and in the university, all worshipping the living God, who makes us one."

"Dr. Dorrell is a well-respected practitioner who has served well at Mission Waco and Church under the Bridge," shared Dr. Bryant. "People come from all over the country to observe the work of Mission Waco and to learn from Jimmy. We are thrilled that he will be coming to East Texas for Engage@ETBU."

All participants will receive a copy of "Toxic Charity: How Church and Charities Hurt Those They Help, and How to Reverse It."

The cost to attend Engage@ETBU is $45 and for those who are alumni registration is $30. To register online go to https://www.etbu.edu/engage .  Registration includes three sessions, a free book and lunch. For more information either email sbryant@etbu.edu or call 903.923.2173.
