ETBU Student Receives UPS Scholarship

September 18, 2015

MARSHALL, Texas (9/1/15) - East Texas Baptist University student Mark Ramos has been selected to receive a UPS Scholarship. Ramos is a junior transfer student from Rowlett, Texas majoring in Business Administration. The scholarship is provided by the ICUT Foundation and its national partner, the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC).

"I am so thankful to the ICUT Foundation for awarding me a scholarship. I plan to use my degree from ETBU to help me obtain a major goal in my life," Ramos said. "That goal would be to own a Chick-Fil-A franchise.  I absolutely love what Chick-Fil-A stands for and what they, as a restaurant believe in.  Setting a goal that big requires a lot of hard work and studying, but I'm willing to do anything to make that dream come true."

At the national level, CIC teams up with the UPS Foundation to distribute funding of the UPS Scholarship. Through this program this year, the ICUT Foundation awarded $88,200 in UPS Scholarships to 36 in-need students at private institutions across Texas.

"Getting accepted into ETBU was one way of the Lord telling me this was a good move, but after receiving scholarships, such as this one, I knew the Lord was calling me here," shared Ramos.  "I chose ETBU because not only can I receive a Bachelor's in business, but because while I attend class and walk around campus I can receive Godly truth from my professors, advisors, and students."

CIC is an association of 744 nonprofit independent colleges and universities and higher education affiliates and organizations that has worked since 1956 to support college and university leadership, advance institutional excellence, and enhance public understanding of private higher education's contributions to society. One of CIC's major program areas is its work with member fundraising consortia of private college, including the ICUT foundation.

East Texas Baptist University offers graduate programs in business, counseling, religion and education, as well as 40 undergraduate degree programs. ETBU provides a Christ-centered education that emphasizes the integration of faith and learning. The ETBU experience is known for "Embracing Faith, Engaging Minds, and Empowering Leaders."
