CHAMPIONS: ETBU Brings Back Two ITA Regional Championships

TENNIS (W): GEORGETOWN, Texas (9/20/15) - Establishing their program as now one of the best in the region the East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team brought back hardware from the ITA Regional Championship Tournament. ETBU played in five different championships on Sunday winning two championships.

Kayla Casey won the Flight "A" singles championship to advance to the national tournament which is a first for the program. She also teamed up with Kate Bramlett to finish as the Flight "A" runners-up in doubles falling 7-5, 6-3, to Southwick/Lutz from Trinity University.

Casey won the singles championship with 6-1, 7-6, win over Vega from Texas Lutheran securing a spot at the ITA NCAA Division III national tournament to compete for the national championship. She won four singles matches to get to the finals for the championship.

Bramlett then won the Flight "A" consolation championship after falling in her first match in the "A" competition. She defeated Texas-Tyler's Kuhn, 2-6, 7-5, 11-9.

Kelly Cawthon was the "B" flight runner-up falling to Texas-Tyler's McKissick, 4-6, 6-2, 10-8. She won five matches to reach the championship match.

Casey and Bramlett also teamed up playing for the "A" Flight doubles championship falling in extra sets, 7-5, 6-3. They were the overall #2 seed in the tournament, too, and won four matches to get to the championship.

Casey will continue on to the national tournament by winning the "A" flight.
