ETBU's Thompson, Price Voted ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes

AMERICAN SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE: RICHARDSON, Texas (6/15/15) - East Texas Baptist University has earned two more American Southwest Conference awards as Erby Thompson and Landon Price are distinguished scholar-athlete award winners. Both athletes were voted as the top scholar-athlete in their perspective sport.

Thompson earns the award for the first time for the men's basketball team as the co-ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete. There were eight other players to choose from and Thompson tied with Texas Dallas' Matthew Medell.

Price wins the award for the second time this year as he was also voted the winner in cross country. He was chosen out of four athletes for men's track and field.

ERBY THOMPSON

Erby Thompson (Pitkin, La. / Plainview HS) helped lead the East Texas Baptist men's basketball team to their most successful season in team history. The Tigers captured their first ASC regular season title and conference tournament championship prior to winning their first games in the NCAA Division III Championship advancing to the Elite Eight. A kinesiology major with a 3.5 grade point average, Thompson is a three-time ASC All-Academic selection and is the first ETBU recipient of the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete award in men's basketball. Thompson finished his collegiate career with 902 points and ranks fourth all-time in three-point field goals (161) at ETBU.


LANDON PRICE

Landon Price (Mount Vernon, Texas / Mount Vernon HS) is a religion and missions major with a 3.8 grade point average. He is a two-time ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete award winner claiming honors in cross country last fall. Price finished third at the ASC Track and Field Championships in the 10,000 meter and 5,000 meter and has twice competed at the NCAA Division III Regional Meet. He also holds the East Texas Baptist record in the 8k. A member of the ETBU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Price was named to the Dean's List after graduating in December.
