ETBU School of Fine Arts to hold Masterclass for Conductors

MARSHALL, Texas (5/21/15) - The East Texas Baptist University School of Fine Arts is holding a Masterclass for Conductors, May 27-31, on campus. ETBU Director of Bands Mark Crim and Finnish Conductor Sasha Makila will serve as faculty for the classes. 

"Eight Conducting Fellows will work with a 20-piece orchestra to develop their skills in the physical aspects of conducting, score study and verbal and non-verbal communication with the performers," said Crim. "In addition to conducting the orchestra, participants will conduct two pianists each day to work on technique and have daily sessions on topics such as score study, professional advancement, starting a professional ensemble and creating community through music."

The participating conductors hail from Texas, Michigan, New York, Maine and Wisconsin.  A free concert for the public will conclude the workshop on Sunday, May 31 at 4:00 p.m. The concert will be held on campus in Baker Auditorium of the Ornelas Spiritual Life Center.
