ETBU Students Present at the 118th Annual Meeting of Texas Academy of Science

MARSHALL, Texas  (3/18/15) -  Five students from East Texas Baptist University attended the 118th Annual meeting of Texas Academy of Science held March 6-7th.  The meeting was hosted by the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio.
 
Two students, Brittney Garner of Lumberton and Adam Hawbacker of Tyler, presented their Honors research at the meeting. Hawbacker won best poster presentation in the Conversation Biology section of the meeting.  His research was titled "Modeling the Metabolism During Flight of Meganeuropsis permiana of the Permian Period." Garner presented "Community Plant Analysis: 10 Years of Succession." 
 
The other students attending the meeting were Matthew Stevens of Bivins, Joshua Serrano of Marshall, and Ben Rhodes of Robinson. 
 
Faculty members who also presented at the meeting were by Dr. David Brooks, Associate Professor of Biology, and Dr. Troy Ladine, Professor of Biology.
 
An Honors Project is designed to allow ETBU students the opportunity to conduct advanced research in their chosen discipline.  The Honors Project culminates in graduating "with distinction" and special recognition during graduation ceremonies. The project is a four-semester program of individual research directed by a faculty member in the student's academic major and supported by an Honors Project Committee.
