ETBU names Camille Freeman 79th Senior Girl Call-Out

April 29, 2026

Camille Freeman of Henderson, Texas, was recognized on Wednesday, April 29, during East Texas Baptist University’s 79th annual Senior Girl Call-Out. Selected by a faculty and staff vote, the senior student “called out” each year is distinguished for her exemplary Christian character, social consciousness, personal poise, academic achievement, and spiritual vision.

“It is an honor and privilege to be chosen as Senior Girl Call Out,” Freeman said. “Attending ETBU has been the greatest season of my life. The Lord has used this university to teach me many things about Himself and the people around me. I will forever be impacted by the people, experiences, and the culture of ETBU.”

Camille Freeman, a marketing and management major from Henderson, Texas, will graduate in May. The daughter of ETBU graduates Clay (’95) and Kendall Freeman (’95), Camille has been actively involved both on campus and in her church community. At ETBU, she played beach volleyball for two years and participated in an on-campus life group. She has also earned recognition on the President’s List and has demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit through her small business, Created by Cami, which she showcases during on-campus Small Business Saturdays.

“Camille has a servant’s heart, always putting others first and looking for ways to help her classmates,” Assistant Professor of Accounting Sarah Palmer said. “She is patient and kind and exemplifies Christ both in the classroom and the campus activities she participates in.”

During her time at ETBU, Freeman has been heavily involved at New Beginnings Baptist Church, where she served as an intern in the College and Young Adults ministry and now works as a resident in the Kids Ministry. Following graduation, she plans to continue in the residency program and pursue a long-term calling in ministry. Camille reflects on her time at ETBU as a transformative season, sharing that the Lord has used her experiences to shape her understanding of faith and relationships, leaving a lasting impact through the people, culture, and opportunities she encountered.

Twenty-nine women participated in Senior Girl Call-Out alongside their “little sisters,” underclassmen chosen by the seniors. During the ceremony, each senior girl passed the symbols of the University’s ideals and traditions to her little sister—the grace of the myrtle, the strength of the oak, and the ever-verdant life of the pine.

“Senior Girl Call-Out is one of my favorite events here at ETBU, in part because it is our longest-standing tradition, marking its 79th year this year,” Director of Student Life Laura Coursey said. “This ceremony allows us to honor our senior ladies for all that they have achieved during their time at ETBU, both on the Hill and in the community. Each girl has given countless hours to their school and their church, leaving a lasting legacy. This year, we are honored to present the award to Camille Freeman, who was selected by faculty and staff as the representative of the Christian character we value at ETBU. Camille has poured so much time into her local church, Tiger Athletics, and campus life. We are excited to continue to see how the Lord uses her in her future endeavors.”

For the past 79 years, over 1,000 young women have taken part in this beloved tradition. Today, the University community continues to honor senior girls for their Christian character and academic excellence, upholding a long-standing tradition of recognition.
