East Texas Baptist University welcomed students, prospective students, and ministry leaders from across the region for its annual Calling Conference on Monday, March 2. The event provided a meaningful opportunity for those exploring or pursuing a call to vocational ministry to learn, connect, and grow alongside experienced leaders actively serving in the field.
The conference featured Dr. Dennis Wiles, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church Arlington, who led both the opening session and spoke during the University’s Monday morning chapel. His messages encouraged attendees to thoughtfully consider their calling and faithfully pursue God’s direction for their lives.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in a variety of sessions designed to provide insight into different areas of ministry. A ministry panel discussion brought together leaders from across disciplines, including worship, student, children’s, and chaplaincy ministries, offering practical wisdom and personal experiences.
Breakout sessions allowed attendees to explore specific ministry paths in greater depth. Leaders included Connan Coker, Minister of Music and Worship at First Baptist Church Tyler; Lane Craig, Minister to Students at Trinity Baptist Church Madison; Rebecca Kahil, Children’s Minister at First Baptist Church Kilgore; and Jim Browning, Director of the Marsh Institute for Chaplains.
“The Calling Conference is a unique opportunity for students to discern and deepen their understanding of God’s call,” Director of the Great Commission Center Dr. Lisa Seeley said. “By connecting with ministry leaders and peers, participants are encouraged and equipped to take the next steps in their journey.”
This year’s conference also welcomed prospective students, who had the opportunity to meet with admissions counselors and participate in guided campus tours, gaining a firsthand look at ETBU’s Christ-centered community and academic offerings.
