East Texas Baptist University has been named to the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society’s 2024 Transfer Honor Roll, recognizing its commitment to providing exceptional pathways and support for transfer students. ETBU is one of 228 colleges and universities across the nation selected for this honor, which acknowledges institutions that excel in creating seamless transitions for community college students pursuing bachelor’s degrees.
The Transfer Honor Roll, based on 40 key metrics related to the success and support of transfer students, highlights colleges that offer outstanding financial aid options, campus life integration, admissions practices, and degree completion rates. Phi Theta Kappa’s analysis utilized data from the National Student Clearinghouse and information submitted through each institution’s PTK Connect profile, an online tool that helps students find colleges that align with their career and academic goals.
"ETBU is deeply committed to providing opportunities for transfer students to continue their education and achieve their academic goals," ETBU President J. Blair Blackburn said. "This recognition by Phi Theta Kappa affirms our dedication to making higher education more accessible and supportive for students transferring from community colleges."
ETBU was selected as one of the top 25 percent of institutions with the highest Transfer Friendliness Rating, based on key metrics such as:
Average percent of transfer in undergraduate population
Average bachelor’s degree completion rate among transfers
Average credit transferred toward a degree major and/or plan
Average percent of transfer students receiving merit-based financial aid
This award emphasizes ETBU’s dedication to fostering a supportive and accessible environment for transfer students, empowering them to achieve their educational goals and succeed in their academic journeys. The university’s commitment to providing financial assistance and ensuring academic credit transferability plays a critical role in this recognition.
"At ETBU, we believe that God has a distinct plan for every student, and our mission is to guide them in following that path," ETBU Vice President for Enrollment Jeremy Johnston said. "Being named to the Transfer Honor Roll is a testament to the dedication of our transfer admissions counselors who work diligently to support students in their journey to ETBU. We have made a deliberate effort to connect with transfer students, and it’s an honor to be recognized by Phi Theta Kappa for these efforts."
