ETBU encourages prospective students to pursue God’s plan

September 26, 2018

East Texas Baptist University hosted more than 105 guests on campus for Preview Day on Monday, September 24. The event provided prospective students and their families with an understanding of ETBU’s core commitments.

“Whether you are undecided or know exactly what field you want to pursue, God has a plan and purpose for your life, and we want you to discover His truths,” ETBU President J. Blair Blackburn said. “Our scholarly faculty teaches from a Christian perspective. We train and equip students to invest in the lives of others. We want you to understand that Christ walked this earth to serve and called others to do the same. Our mission is for you to realize, whatever your vocation, that God wants you to be a faithful Christian servant leader.”

Prospective freshmen and transfer students received a comprehensive overview of life at ETBU through informational sessions, campus tours, an academic showcase, a student panel, and chapel service.

“I actually heard about Preview Day from my pastor,” Emily Tovar from Grand Prairie, Texas shared. “He told me that ETBU is a Christ-centered, family-orientated university. He mentioned that faculty and staff build relationships with students, and I was really interested in that. Overall, I’m excited for what the school offers here.”

Preview Day connected students and their families with the resources necessary to excel by offering opportunities to meet with current students, faculty and staff, admissions counselors, and financial aid and academic advisors.

“I decided to attend Preview Day because I am highly interested in ETBU,” Matthew Connor from Bells, Texas expressed. “Preview Day has helped clarify the decision for me, and I intend on applying to ETBU. My Admissions Counselor, Brandon LeBlanc, is a fun-spirited guy, who has helped me throughout the process. I would recommend ETBU to any of my friends. It is one of the best college visit experiences that I have had so far.”

ETBU Preview Day is scheduled for October 8 and Tiger Day for November 10. The University will also host Campus Visit Saturday on October 27 for students to take a tour and meet with their Admissions Counselor. Students are invited to join ETBU’s Amazing Race to fellowship with fellow future Tigers and experience the campus through engaging activities. If Spring 2019 and Fall 2019 entering students apply during any campus visit, the application fee will be waived. “As a former student, I enjoy investing in students, who have been exactly where I was. I am humbled that, by sharing my experiences, I am able to help students with the same things I went through,” ETBU Transfer Admissions Counselor Maddie Sherwood explained. “I love recruiting students because everyone has a different story, and I am able to guide them to their next step. I want students to come to ETBU because I believe that this University will change their life.”
