ETBU continues Tiger Transfer Track Program by partnering with NTCC

March 26, 2018

East Texas Baptist University partnered with Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) through an articulation agreement. The agreement, signed by ETBU President J. Blair Blackburn and NTCC President Ron Clinton, will provide an affordable avenue for NTCC students to pursue a quality, Christian education at East Texas Baptist.

"ETBU is honored to unite in this partnership with Northeast Texas Community College and Dr. Clinton," Dr. Blackburn shared. "Several of my family members have attended Northeast Texas and been significantly impacted by NTCC's outstanding education. As a community college graduate, I personally know the value of the two-year college experience and how my education prepared me for my calling. We desire to see more outstanding students from NTCC consider East Texas Baptist for university study and preparation for their careers. ETBU looks forward to welcoming new NTCC students and graduates to the Tiger Family."

During the fall of 1983, a group of citizens in Camp, Morris, and Titus counties formed a steering committee to establish a community college district. In August 1985, Northeast Texas Community College started classes on schedule in the recently completed buildings. Northeast received full accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in January 1987. Since that time, NTCC has experienced growth in student enrollments and in its level of recognition as an institution. The community college currently offers programs in Engineering Mathematics and Science, Humanities, Health Sciences, Professional and Technical studies, and various curriculum for students seeking to continue their education.

"NTCC is pleased to enter into these important articulation agreements with East Texas Baptist University," Dr. Clinton said. "This partnership between our two schools will give our students a variety of seamless transfer pathways into the high-quality bachelor's degree programs offered by ETBU to further their academic and professional goals."
The agreement will ensure that eligible graduates of NTCC will be able to seamlessly transfer approved courses, receive priority for admission and scholarships at ETBU. The University will also offer $11,000 each year in academic support to Phi Theta Kappa students.

"The challenge of the Texas Higher Education Board to create a globally competitive workforce in Texas is all of our responsibilities," ETBU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Thomas Sanders said. "This step today, taken by our two institutions, marks a strategic partnership toward this end. We are appreciative of the efforts of Northeast Texas Community College and look forward to the future success of our students and institutions."

As a part of the Tiger Transfer Track Program, ETBU is actively pursuing partnerships with schools in the surrounding community. In addition to the recent partnerships with the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler (UTHSCT), Kilgore College, Jacksonville College, Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC), Youth with A Mission (YWAM), Panola College, Navarro College, Tyler Junior College (TJC), and Angelina College, East Texas Baptist will continue to establish and further relationships with more organizations committed to the holistic development of students.
