Tiger Baseball Has Four Players Named ABCA All-Region

ABCA: MARSHALL, Texas (5/25/16) – More regional awards have come to East Texas Baptist University in baseball as four players are on the ABCA West All-Region team. Conner Combs, Tyler Bates, Dynas Doud, and Zach Compton are all on an ABCA team. Combs and Bates were named to the first-team and now have a chance to be All-Americans while Doud and Compton made the third team. This is the first time that ETBU has had four players named ABCA All-Region in the same year.

Combs is given his second all-region award in one week as he gains a first-team award from the ABCA. Earlier in the week he was named to the D3baseball.com All-West Region first-team which was a first for the program. This is his fifth post-season award. He is the ASC Player of the Year, All-ASC first-team, and CoSIDA Academic All-District first-team. He led the ASC in home runs with 15 and slugging percentage (.734) and is ranked in the top 10 in six different ASC categories. In other categories he is second in RBI (52) and total bases (116), fifth in stolen bases (20), sixth in batting average (.399) and ninth in hits (63). He finished with eight doubles and had six sacrifice at-bats. In the NCAA, he is fourth in home runs, sixth in home runs per game (.35), and 15th in slugging percentage.

Bates earned his first ABCA All-Region first-team award as an outfielder. Earlier this week he was voted onto the D3baseball.com West All-Region second-team as an outfielder. This is his third ABCA award as he was a two-time ABCA All-West Region third team selection. This year he was named to the All-ASC first-team which was the third time in his career. In the ASC Tournament he broke ETBU’s career record for hits with over 200. He leads the ASC in runs scored (58) and total bases (133) and was second in hits (72), home runs (14) and RBI (55).

Doud is on the ABCA West All-Region team for the second year in a row as he was a third-team selection last year. This year he was All-ASC first-team and was second on the team in hits with 71. He was also voted onto the CoSIDA Academic All-District team for his GPA. Overall, he batted .386 starting and playing in 45 games with a .571 slugging percentage. He also posted 42 RBI on five home runs, 15 doubles, and scored 45 times.

Compton gains his second All-Region third-team award this week after being on the D3baseball.com West All-Region third team earlier. He was also an All-ASC first-team selection at short stop. In the ASC he is second in run scored (50), fourth in RBI (52) and home runs (11), and eighth in total bases (99). He added 55 hits with seven doubles and two triples for a .607 slugging percentage.

ETBU finished 2016 with 31 wins which is the first-time in 10 years that they have had a 30-win season. They also hosted the ASC Tournament as the #2 seed.
