Three Players Earn All-Region Awards

BASEBALL: MARSHALL, Texas (5/24/16) – More awards keep pouring in for the East Texas Baptist University baseball team as three players were named to the D3baseball.com All-Region teams. Conner Combs (first-team), Tyler Bates (second-team), and Zach Compton (third-team) all are on all-region teams. ETBU lead the American Southwest Conference with selections on the all-region team.

Combs earned ETBU’s first-ever All-West Region first-team selection at first base on D3baseball.com as he now has four post-season awards. He is the ASC Player of the Year, All-ASC first-team, and CoSIDA Academic All-District first-team. He led the ASC in home runs with 15 and slugging percentage (.734) and is ranked in the top 10 in six different ASC categories. In other categories he is second in RBI (52) and total bases (116), fifth in stolen bases (20), sixth in batting average (.399) and ninth in hits (63). He finished with eight doubles and had six sacrifice at-bats. In the NCAA, he is fourth in home runs, sixth in home runs per game (.35), and 15th in slugging percentage.

Bates is on the second-team as an outfielder and earns his first award from D3baseball.com. He is also a two-time ABCA All-West Region selection, too. This year he was named to the All-ASC first-team which was the third time in his career. In the ASC Tournament he broke ETBU’s career record for hits with over 200. He leads the ASC in runs scored (58) and total bases (133) and was second in hits (72), home runs (14) and RBI (55).

Compton gains his first-ever All-Region award being named to the third-team. He was also an All-ASC first-team selection at short stop. In the ASC he is second in run scored (50), fourth in RBI (52) and home runs (11), and eighth in total bases (99). He added 55 hits with seven doubles and two triples for a .607 slugging percentage.

ETBU finished 2016 with 31 wins which is the first-time in 10 years that they have had a 30-win season. They also hosted the ASC Tournament as the #2 seed.
