ASC: MARSHALL, Texas (5/8/16) – Keeping the season alive with an American Southwest Conference Red Division elimination game win over Sul Ross State University, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team came from behind for a 23-15 victory. The win vs. SRSU also featured Tyler Bates becoming ETBU’s all-time hits lead with 201 as he broke it on a grand slam home run.

ETBU was led by Dynas Doud (2 RBI) and Tyler Bates (5 RBI, 1 homerun) who both had five hits. Kam Sumrall (4 RBI), Zach Compton (3 RBI), and Zach Ervin would also homer in the game as well upping ETBU’s home run total to 68 of the season. Kyle Loson got the start with four innings allowing eight runs on 11 hits and two strikeouts. But it was Chad Boudreaux who picked up the win with five innings allowing seven runs on 13 hits and three strikeouts.

ETBU trailed 7-6 after four innings when they scampered home five runs in the fifth inning on RBI singles by Landon Barns, Bates, a sac fly by Doud, and a home run by Sumrall made the score 11-7. After a Lobos run in the bottom half cut the lead to three, 11-8, ETBU brought in two more runs in the sixth on another Doud RBI single and a bases loaded walk to Sumrall. ETBU exploded for eight runs in the eighth inning that saw Bates hit a grand slam to put him ahead of all players in the hits category. After the Lobos got four more in the bottom of the eighth, ETBU would add two more on a two run shot by Ervin. SRSU would get three runs in the ninth before their season ended on a fly ball to right.

ETBU now plays Hardin-Simmons Sunday (today) for the championship game at 1:00 pm. If they win, a second will be played afterwards to decide the champion and the right to host the conference series next round.
