May 27, 2016

D3BASEBALL: MARSHALL, Texas – For the first time in program history the East Texas Baptist University baseball team has a D3baseball.com All-American as Conner Combs made the third team. Combs becomes only the second All-American overall in the NCAA era for ETBU as Trey Luster was an ABCA All-American in 2005.

Combs has earned several post-season awards for his play and academics this year and this is one of the highest earned. Regionally, he has been voted onto the D3baseball.com first-team and ABCA first-team for the West Region. He was also a CoSIDA Academic All-District first-team selection. Along with the regional awards, he was the ASC “Player of the Year”, All-ASC first-team, and the hitter of the week.

He led the ASC in home runs with 15 and slugging percentage (.734) and is ranked in the top 10 in six different ASC categories. In other categories he is second in RBI (52) and total bases (116), fifth in stolen bases (20), sixth in batting average (.399) and ninth in hits (63). He finished with eight doubles and had six sacrifice at-bats. In the NCAA, he is fourth in home runs, sixth in home runs per game (.35), and 15th in slugging percentage.

ETBU finished the year with 31 wins which was the most since 2005 and hosted the ASC Tournament Red Division side at Woods Field.
