AWARDS: Sanders, Elonu Are AVCA All-American, All-Region

AVCA: MARSHALL, Texas (11/17/15) - It is the second time in three years that the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team has received AVCA awards both regionally and nationally. Mallory Sanders and Adaeze Elonu were voted AVCA All-American honorable mention and All-Region in a five-day span. ETBU has now had three AVCA All-American honorable mention selections in three years as Kolby Sharp was an All-American in 2013.

Regionally, it was the first time in program history that ETBU had two players earn all-region awards. It was also the third straight year that ETBU has had players on the all-region team.

Sanders continued her historic career at ETBU earning two more awards to already go with her ASC awards. She was the ASC East Division co-Player of the Year, All-ASC, and All-ASC East first-team along with being the ASC East Division player of the week, twice, and the AVCA National Player of the Week once. She was then voted both AVCA All-Region and All-American adding to her awards. This year she finished with 384 kills and a .258 attack percentage averaging 3.86 kills per set. She also added 297 digs (3.0 per set) and 49 blocks.

Elonu earns her first All-American award and second All-Region award adding to her All-ASC and All-ASC East Division awards. She leaves ETBU as the all-time blocks leader and finished the year with 125 blocks averaging 1.26 per set. She also added 253 kills (2.56 per set) with a .344 attacking percentage. In her career, she was a three-time All-ASC first-team (East Division or ASC) selection and a two-time All-AVCA regional selection.

ETBU finished the year 21-7 and second in the ASC East Division.
